January and February have been very busy months to get ready for everything that is happening in March. So, before I start talking about these events let me first thank everybody that has been involved to make this happen! The endless involvement and excitement in this community is one of the greatest assets in this county. There are a lot of sponsors and people working behind the scenes, and they are the reason March is going to be a great month in Bates County!!
Butler Movie Matinee
The Butler Vision Committee has been working hard to determine what the needs of Butler are and how to address them. We were lucky to have over 300 surveys filled out at Huckster’s Day, and we figured out that what one of the biggest needs of Butler is for more activities for all ages. So, the Vision Committee is working with the Butler Parks and Recreations Department to put on a Movie Matinee on Sunday, March 1. The movie will be Space Jam and will start at 2:00, plus a combo of popcorn and a drink will be available for only $2. When you first get there, the Vision Committee will be handing out a short survey to get the public’s opinion on more topics in Butler. We are hoping that this will be a success so that more can be hosted throughout the year. So, please come, fill out our survey, and enjoy the movie!
The Bates County Resume Workshop is going to be held on March 5, at the new Annex Building, which is located on the south side of the Butler Square. The workshop is free of charge and will start at 6:00. Rayna Born from the Nevada Career Center will be the speaker and she will not only be covering resume building but how to prepare for and dress for a job interview. It does not matter whether you are preparing to graduate high school or going back into the workforce for the first time in years, building a resume is not a skill that is used very often and what businesses are looking for is constantly changing. So, this workshop is for everybody and will help you get ready for the First Annual Bates County Job Fair at the end of the month.
Bates County Job Fair
The First Annual Bates County Job Fair will be held on Thursday, March 26 from 10:00-2:00, at the old Butler High School Gym. The Job Fair and Resume Workshop were purposed planned within weeks of each other to help the community plan for the Job Fair. There are two great aspects to this Job Fair, the businesses attending and the opportunity for the people of Bates County to reach out in the job market in ways they have not gotten to before.
If you are a business that would like to attend, the cost is only $10 as long as you register before March 6. You can still register after that date, it will just be $20 instead. This registration gets you a booth and two chairs, plus lunch on the day of and free advertisement leading up to the event. Even if you are not hiring right now, you could be in the future or you could come to just display your business. This is an opportunity you cannot pass up!
For jobseekers, the Job Fair is free to attend so you can come on March 26 anytime between 10:00-2:00 to see what kind of businesses are out there that might interest you. When you come, I recommend you dress professional and bring resumes to pass it. If you have any questions about how to impress a potential business, I recommend you attend our Resume Workshop.
If you would like a registration form for the Job Fair or have any questions about any of these events, please contact me at 660-464-2151 or by email at Elizabeth@kaysinger.com. I look forward to seeing everybody in in March!
